Overview
Our humanities subjects explore the experiences of humans in social, cultural, environmental, economic and political contexts.
Subjects offered include History, Philosophy, Economics, Geography, Legal Studies, Media Studies and Politics.
Humanities students gain a greater understanding of the world and its people, and develop skills to deal with issues of the future. These subjects can lead students into a range of future study pathways and careers.
Our humanities subjects include:
Students learn about different economic systems and institutions, and assess whether these systems match people’s needs and wants. They study how the economy works and which issues are affecting it.
Students explore the legal heritage of Australia and other nations, and the dynamic nature of these systems. They learn about the structures of traditional legal systems and how they respond to and contribute to social change.
Our Modern History subjects explore two historical periods.
Student learn about the changes within the world since 1750, and distinctive features of the world since 1945. They build skills in historical inquiry, exploring different interpretations, and developing historical arguments.
Students learn about the history, literature, society and culture of ancient civilisations. They develop inquiry skills to challenge or confirm the beliefs, attitudes, and values of the ancient world.
Students learn in a community context, both within and beyond the school environment. They see how communities are shaped, and how to contribute to community activities.
Students develop an understanding of the three-dimensional relationships between people, places and environments. They learn about the complexity of our world, its diverse environments, and the challenges and opportunities for Australia and the world.
Students develop an understanding of the media and its influence in Australia and globally. They research, discuss and analyse media issues, and gain skills in media production.
Students explore and analyse the interactions between people, societies, cultures and environments. They develop skills, values and understandings that enable them to participate well in modern society.
Students build their skills in creative and critical thinking. They learn to articulate and justify philosophical positions and argue reasoned action.
Students look at religious and spiritual beliefs and value systems in Australian society and around the world. They explore how this study builds an understanding of, and respect for, the different ways in which people, think, feel and act.
Politics, Power and People is the study of how power is distributed and exercised at all levels of society. Students explore ideas related to cooperation, conflict, crises, and the political intricacies of a government.
Learners explore the world from the perspectives of women and their experiences. They develop an understanding of how gender shapes, and is shaped by, society.
