Meet the artist
Harrison Chow, Independent Education Union Award recipient.
How do you feel to be an award winner at the 2020 SACE Art Show?
I'm very grateful and honestly quite surprised by the outcome. I didn't expect my piece to gain the attention it got.

What was the inspiration behind your work?
The inspiration behind it was my sister and it was focused around her. Using her as the focal point and incorporating certain features like her favourite colours and using the butterflies as an added feature to add more controlled, almost chaos to the artwork. Artistically, I gained lots of inspiration from David Bromley and the way he composed many of his pieces. He also happens to be one of my favourite artists.
Tell us about the creative process you took with your work.
Its a combination of painting, photography, printing and computer editing.
What advice would you have to Stage 2 Visual Arts students in 2020?
To enjoy what you are doing. It will be very difficult to motivate yourself to complete your work if you have no interest in the style or subject that your painting, drawing, constructing, modelling etc. It will take a lot of time to complete it so you might as well be enjoying yourself while doing it.
What pathway are you taking after your SACE?
Currently, I am undergoing a Bachelor of Architectural Studies at the University of South Australia. I hope to complete my 3 years of undergrad and move into a Masters degree of Architecture.
