Interstate and overseas students

If you’ve studied at secondary school level outside South Australia, you may able to use your studies towards your SACE.

Your interstate or overseas studies or qualification may be worth as many as 130 SACE credits, with up to 20 of these recognised at Stage 2.

If you’ve successfully completed a full Australian or overseas senior secondary program that is considered the equivalent of Stage 1, you’ll be recognised as having up to 110 credits at Stage 1.

This includes:

  • 10 credits for the Personal Learning Plan (PLP)
  • 20 credits for literacy requirements, from subjects considered to give you similar capabilities as one or more of the SACE Stage 1 English subjects
  • 10 credits for the numeracy requirements, from subjects considered to give you similar capabilities as one of the SACE Stage 1 mathematics subjects
  • 70 credits for non-compulsory subjects that make up your Stage 1 equivalent qualification.

If you transfer to the SACE from interstate or overseas during Year 11 (Stage 1) and after the completion of one semester (or the equivalent), you may be eligible for some Stage 1 credits, up to a maximum of 50 credits for one semester.

If you are part way through your Year 12 studies in another Australian state, you may apply for credits at Stage 2; however, any results from an incomplete subject cannot contribute to your scaled points for tertiary entrance. 

If you’ve successfully completed a Year 12 subject interstate, recognition will be granted towards your SACE and an equivalent score will be calculated for tertiary admission purposes. Up to 20 credits can be recognised at Stage 2.

Recognition of interstate subjects does not replace the Stage 2 Research Project or the compulsory 60 credits at Stage 2.

  • 10 credits through achieving a C- grade or better in the compulsory Research Project.
  • 60 credits by achieving a C- grade or better in Stage 2 Board-accredited subjects, or the equivalent of at least satisfactory achievement in Board-recognised vocational education and training courses.
  • 20 credits through achievements in other Board-accredited subjects or Board-recognised courses, at Stage 1 or Stage 2.
