Stage 2 Music Performance — Solo is a 10-credit subject.

School assessment component

Teachers assess the evidence of student learning for:

  • Assessment Type 1: Performance
  • Assessment Type 2: Performance and Discussion.

The SACE Board quality assures the school assessment results through final moderation.

Moderation sample selection

Teachers select the moderation sample of school-assessed materials to submit to the SACE Board.

Submitting school assessment materials for final moderation

School assessment materials for Stage 2 Music Performance — Solo will be submitted using school assessment results sheets in Schools Online.

Supervision and verification

Refer to the information in Supervision and Verification of Students’ Work: Policy and Procedures [DOC 90KB] on the use of the record sheet [DOC 164KB] to record and authenticate each student’s work. If used, these sheets are to be kept in the school until the end of the clerical check period in February 2022.

A teacher who is unable to verify that the work is the student’s own must initiate a breach of rules action through the school’s SACE/NTCET coordinator.

External assessment component

Students present an ensemble performance portfolio consisting of:

  • an ensemble performance of a musical work or works, and individual evidence of each student's contribution to the ensemble through individual part-testing
  • an individual evaluation of their learning journey.

The performance should be presented to a live audience. All performances must be recorded for assessment. A performance should be a maximum of 6 to 8 minutes, with approximately 2 minutes of part-testing.

The evaluation should be to a maximum of 3 minutes if oral, 500 words if written, or the equivalent in multimodal form.

External assessment materials for Stage 2 Music Performance — Solo will be submitted using external assessment results sheets in Schools Online.

Assessment Type 3: Performance Portfolio

This assessment type is categorised as an investigation for operational purposes.

Investigation materials for Music Performance — Solo are submitted online..

The teacher assesses each student’s performance portfolio task and then submits all performance portfolios  to the SACE Board for external assessment.

Supervision and verification

Refer to Supervision and Verification of Students’ Work: Policy and Procedures [DOC 90KB]. Teachers must use the record sheet [DOC 164KB] to record and authenticate each student’s work. These sheets are to be kept in the school until the end of the clerical check period in February 2022.

A teacher who is unable to verify that a practical investigation, or part of a practical investigation, is the student’s own work must submit a completed report of potential breach of rules [DOC 108KB] to the SACE Board, through the school’s SACE/NTCET coordinator.
