Stage 2 Assessment Type 3: Examination (30%)

The Vietnamese (background speakers) examination consists of two assessments: an oral examination and a written examination that are assessed externally

  • The oral examination is weighted at 20% of the external assessment.
  • The written examination is weighted at 80% of the external assessment.

Oral examination
The oral examination takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

The oral examination consists of a discussion between the examiner(s) and the student on the topic of the students in-depth study. The student is expected to explore the topic and related prescribed theme or contemporary issue and refer to the texts studied.

Students complete an In-depth study outline for oral examination form [DOC 1.5MB]. All oral examinations are conducted via an online video conferencing platform.

The IDS outline is emailed to askSACE.sa.gov.au by the end of Term 3.

The complete timetable for oral examinations will be provided to schools in early September. The date of the oral examination will be available on the Vietnamese (background speakers) online calendar

Written examination
Students undertake one written 130 minute examination, which has three sections:

  • Section 1: Listening and Responding
  • Section 2: Reading and Responding (Part A and Part B)
  • Section 3: Writing in Vietnamese.

Refer to the subject outline for details of the examination requirements.

The timetable for background speakers written examinations will be published during June.
